Having the right tool for the job can make all the difference in the world. Trying to improvise might show off your creativity, but it also might be frustrating and downright dangerous! If you have ever used a screwdriver as a prybar, you know what I mean. One slip, and you could be making a trip to the emergency room.
When you want to give your home some cozy touches, there are some tools and gadgets that are pretty much a necessity. Some are basic; others are just cool to have and might make some projects easier. Here are my top ten eleven:
1. Hammer
2. Assorted sizes of screwdrivers–flat and Phillips-head
3. Submarine level
4. Combination lazer level/stud finder (a luxury which I survived without until my husband gave me one…now, life is SO much easier)
5. Large (three- to four-foot) level
6. Cordless drill/driver (I have a Ryobi that has been going strong for several years. Beware of cheap brands that might not have the power you need.) Also, start collecting an assortment of drill bits and screwdriver bits. I prefer the kind with the hexagon-shaped bases. It makes changing them a snap!
7. Hacksaw
8. Miter box
9. Miter saw (electric)–when you can afford one. Ours was about $120, a few years ago. It is quite an improvement over the miter box and hacksaw.
10. Putty knives–assorted sizes.
11. ***Hot glue gun***Possibly the most essential and useful of all home decorating tools. There are probably thousands of uses….maybe more on this later.
