Linen Closet Progress Report

Happy Friday, Company Girl Coffee Drinkers and anyone else who passes this way! Thanks, Rachel Anne, for hosting.

The linen closet is on its way–though not complete. I have not had time to shop for bins, and I need them. (I know this from personal experience. :) ) Here are some accountability pictures–you know, to keep me honest!

Linen Closet--Starting from Scratch

All the Sorted (also, Sordid) Goods

I vow that these items will not be returned to the shelves until they are properly placed in labeled bins.

[sigh] EVERY project ends up taking a wee bit more time than I expected. This is a running joke with my husband. I tend to say to him, on his vacation days, of course, “This will only take us a couple of hours.” Now, after 21 years, he just sort of looks at me and smiles a sideways smile…Nothing has ever taken only a couple of hours.

p.s. No visitors until my mission is accomplished. Just kidding. There is always a couch or two available!

What is your current project, and what is the status?

my current project is to get a basic handle on my house today…it has gotten a bit out of control with some long work days for me and some work stress for hubby that has sucked some energy around here. I also have been working on a photo book for my father in law for his birthday–and it is taking forever. Hopefully this weekend it will be DONE!

Way to go tackling that linen closet…I did mine a while back and it has pretty much stayed the way it should…feels so good.

Getting a handle on things seems to be an ongoing project for me, too! Good luck with all you are doing.

My current project is to get my guest room under control. It became the dumping ground when we moved here 2 months ago, and there’s still some work to be done. I do think if I spend about half an hour a day, or many days, on it, we’ll have an actual guest room / sewing room / office maybe by February :)

The linen closet is next. Mostly I need to sort through my sheet sets and see what’s missing, needs to be replaced, etc. I’m pretty good with shelves, once I get them arranged. It’s the getting them arranged part in the beginning that always gets me!!

  4. We tackled our linen closet the other week and I swear I have no idea how all the stuff we threw out fitted in there as well as the stuff we put back.

you are doing a great job! keep up the good work!

I can totally relate to projects taking longer than expected! That’s how it was when I tackled my desk this week – and it turned into a huge kitchen organization day – but WOW did it feel good! I got so much stuff moved around and thrown away and organized – I LOVE the way my kitchen looks and feels now. We can actually USE the desk for its intended purpose and its been a huge relief. Hoping you can get your bin & baskets soon (I know how that is).

  7. Jill says:

Can I help – it will only take a few hours – I can be there any afternoon next week!!!!

  8. Joyce says:

You can do it! Things over here take more than just a few hours too…once I get started on something, usually a small human needs my attention. But I love to take everything out and start from scratch. Can’t wait to see the result. Have a lovely weekend.

Good job! The bins are a great idea. I need some of those here, as we have lots of shelves, but few drawers.

  10. Star says:

I am currently working on making a workbox system for our homeschool. My mother in law gave me the shelves for Christmas. I bought the boxes the week after Christmas. I forgot the velcro, labels, etc. Still waiting. Maybe they’ll be done by next Christmas! Hope your closet goes better! :)

  11. jamie says:

Sounds like a lot to organize, Star! You’ll get it, though (and probably long before next Christmas!):)

  12. jamie says:

Thanks, Anna. The trick will be finding the right size on the bins!

  13. jamie says:

Thanks, Jill, but I think I have the closet! I’ll see you soon to finish your sewing/wrapping/craft room.

  14. jamie says:

Debbie, what a wonderful feeling! A job well done! (Isn’t it wonderful to breathe in that clean, organized air?)

  15. jamie says:

It all seems to multiply, doesn’t it?

  16. jamie says:

I think this is the danger of having an extra room! We do the same thing–until I just can’t stand it any more or until someone is coming to visit. I like your idea of spending a certain amount of time each day on the project, especially if it’s a project you can just close the door on! Having children sometimes makes large chunks of time hard to come by…Bit by bit, it will get accomplished. Keep up the good work.
